Conference 2011 - PR, an art or a science?

Picture
In the chaotic and unpredictable world of people and their relationships, are you an Einstein or a Dali? Do you manage the public relationships around you in a whirl of intuitive creative energy or do you research, deduce, investigate and detail?

At the 2011 PRINZ Conference in Rotorua, we explored and investigated whether public relations and communication management is a scientific, research based discipline or a flamboyant, creative construct. Or, like the old Roman god Janus, is our reality looking both ways at once?

To explore the debate, we had an exciting line up of presenters who challenged us with game theory and chaos theory. They scrutinised the psychology of the crowd, human behaviour and the global mindset that relates to public relations and communications management. We will also examined the science (or art) of corporate reputation, the art (or science) of politics and the science (or art) behind the technologies that have disrupted human communication around the planet.

There were ‘hard and fast’ learning sessions designed to cement our understanding of the science and art evident throughout public relations practice, equipping us with new skills and approaches we can put to work immediately.
